Job Description

About Upstart

Upstart is a leading AI lending platform partnering with banks to expand access to affordable credit. As we transitioned to being a public company, we’re now poised to leverage our domain expertise and revolutionize every aspect of lending and credit risk evaluation. We’ve recently expanded our offerings to include automobile refinancing and we plan to take on more verticals as the business grows.

By leveraging Upstart's AI platform, Upstart-powered banks can have higher approval rates and lower loss rates, while simultaneously delivering the exceptional digital-first lending experience their customers demand. Upstart's patent-pending platform is the first to receive a no-action letter from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau related to fair lending. Upstart is based in San Mateo, California and Columbus, Ohio.

Most Upstarters join us because they connect with our mission of enabling access to effortless credit based on true risk. If you are energized by the impact you can make at Upstart, we’d love to hear from you!

The Team

Our Auto Lending team is growing to support the expansion, growth, and success of the auto refinance product, which we launched one year ago. We are an analytical and outgoing organization driven to expand access to effortless credit based on true risk in the automotive lending space. We’re currently saving the average borrower who refinances with us approximately $80 a month, and we’re eager to help many more customers save as we begin to scale.

Position Location - This role is available in the following locations: Remote, San Mateo, Columbus

Time Zone Requirements - This team operates on both the East/West Coast time zones.

Travel Requirements - This team has occasional on-site collaboration sessions. These occur 3 days per Month at either the Columbus or San Mateo offices. If you need to travel to make these meetups, Upstart will cover all travel related expenses.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Lead projects large and small related to product scoping and launches, program scaling, vendor onboarding, and other areas aimed at growing Upstart’s auto refinancing business. Maintain and update the team’s project plans, schedules, and cross-functional dependencies, and track progress toward goals.
  • Help build a strong and engaged cross-functional team: identify internal owners and stakeholders, increase buy-in to the overarching strategy, problem-solve when gaps emerge, etc.
  • Contribute to making internal self-service systems and tools useful and accessible to the many Upstarters who work on auto, and find innovative ways to keep all Upstarters informed about refi.
  • Organize and facilitate effective stakeholder meetings. Follow up on action items and execute on decisions.
  • Proactively support the Bank Partnerships Team in launching auto refi with new bank partners.
  • Partner with the Public Policy Team to identify and act on opportunities to improve the consumer experience in states with high-friction requirements around refinancing.
  • Coordinate with the Compliance Team to drive efficient reviews of product and policy-related changes related to the auto refinancing program.
  • Develop knowledge of the automotive lending industry, stay up-to-date on new developments, and contribute ideas. Stay informed about changes to internal processes and workstreams across the Upstart Auto Team and monitor performance metrics.
  • Track and communicate progress toward quarterly OKRs.
  • Keep external vendors on track with internal organization goals.
  • Conduct and coordinate market and product research as needed.

What we’re looking for:

  • Self starter. You’re capable of defining problems and solutions, doing your own research and analysis, and prioritizing work. You proactively get things done.
  • Execution ability. You should be highly organized and driven to meet deadlines. Once you define a project strategy, you should be comfortable managing requirements across a cross-functional team. Experience with JIRA is helpful but not required.
  • Grit. This role requires trying new things and establishing new processes. You should be comfortable working within a fast-paced startup environment in which priorities can change.
  • Collaborator and communicator. You have proven success in uniting cross-functional teams, sharing updates at the right level of detail, and forging strong relationships. You have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Education and experience: A Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of program or project management experience are required.
  • Flexibility: There will be occasional extended work hours for this position.

What you’ll love:

  • Competitive Compensation (base + bonus & equity)
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Personal Development and Technology & Ergonomic Budgets
  • Life insurance and disability benefits
  • Clubs and Activities (Game Nights, Fitstarters, Superwomen, Book Club, Investing Club, Money Discussions, Photography Club and Basketball teams)
  • Generous vacation policy
  • 401(k)
  • Catered lunches + snacks & drinks
