Job Description

Search Engine Optimization is a vital function at Sports Reference. The majority of our traffic arrives through search engines. While SEO has always been and will continue to be a company-wide focus, we feel the time is right to bring in an SEO expert to help us take the necessary steps to solidify and improve our efforts.The SEO Specialist will work with our product team to develop product insight, monitor the effectiveness of our efforts, and alert the team to any important issues. They will also work with the marketing team to develop SEO-related strategies to drive adoption of our products and, if able, consult on the use of search engine marketing to promote our products.

Goals and Tasks for Your First Year (In rough order of importance)

Must-Reach Goals and Tasks
  • Ensure newly-developed code meets SEO best practices by working with the engineering team.
  • Develop, deploy, and report on monitoring of SEO and SEM performance.
  • Manage vendor relationships for SEO-related tools and services.
  • Lead technical SEO work at Sports Reference.
Nice-to-Reach Goals and Tasks
  • Perform keyword discovery and expansion to find high-value terms or phrases SR can and should rank for.
  • Develop, implement and monitor a link building strategy.
  • Dramatically improve the international SEO performance of FBref.com. This site contains content relevant to the entire world and is already translated into six languages.
  • Provide support to the marketing group's search engine marketing efforts.
  • Shape product and marketing decisions from an SEO perspective and consult freely with all parts of the SR team.

  • The total value of our benefits package is up to $30,000.
  • We cover full health and dental insurance costs for full-time employees and their dependent children. We cover 70%-80% of plans for an entire family.

  • Employees begin with 18 days vacation per year and an additional 7 paid company holidays and accrue sick leave at the rate of one day per month.
