  • Fulltime
  • Anywhere (100% Remote) Only
Job Description

About the role

Toolbox are on a mission to reimagine the home renovation process and as part of that, we’re offering a fixed price guarantee to home owners, and we’re offering fair labour prices to our tradespeople. In order to continue doing this, we need to make sure our costing models are accurate, we need to keep a close eye on material and consumable costs and we need to spot opportunities where we can innovate to deliver value for all parties. We’re looking for an experienced quantity surveyor to join our team but this won’t be your typical quantity surveying role.

Our ambition is to become one of the biggest home renovation brands in the UK and as a result our buying power will increase with a number of different suppliers. We’d like you to develop a standardised pack of building materials and consumables which will go to every one of our renovation sites and you’ll be responsible for negotiating the best prices for these. You’ll work with our tradespeople to understand the brands and products they like to work with then make key decisions over our chosen suppliers.

We’ll also need you to have a clear understanding of the renovation process - how bathrooms are built, if you will. You’ll be a key member of the team who will help to set the prices we pay our tradespeople, you’ll help cost one-off requested from customers or help pice change requests during live renovation projects.

This will be a really varied role but one that will be critical in the success of Toolbox’s mission.

About you

  • Experience working as a quantity surveyor and / or professional training undertaken as a quantity surveyor.
  • You should be knowledgable and experienced in the UK construction sector - ideally in residential house refurbishment, new home build or in bathrooms fit outs in the commercial sector
  • You should have an eye for detail and be a keen number cruncher to ensure our costs are accurately reported and nothing slips through the cracks
  • You will be comfortable and experienced in challenging tradespeople and suppliers on prices and quantities - we’re not asking you to hammer down the price at all costs, but we need to achieve levels that work for all parties and foster long term relationships
  • You should have a demonstrable record of establishing processes within an organisation; we’re keen for you to lead on several internal initiatives and ensure they’re adhered to on our projects
  • You’ll be confident in presenting data to the senior management team on a frequent basis and you should be happy to contribute to weekly meetings
  • Be excited by the opportunity to help shape the direction of a growing consumer brand - we have lots of plans for Toolbox and you’ll be a key part in them; the right candidate will bring enthusiasm and ideas to the role
  • A willingness to adapt is critical. As we’re a start-up organisation, we’re still finding our feet and developing new and improved ways to do things on a weekly basis. There may be times where you need to make quick decisions or adapt to using a new system or process at short notice. There will also likely be times where you are asked to help out on a different set of tasks / responsibilities that may not be in your business unit for a short period of time.

Benefits

  • £40,000 - £50,000 depending on experience
  • You’ll be given share options in the business - we believe all our employees should benefit in the success of the organisation

  • 25 days annual leave excluding bank holidays

Flexible working:

  • Toolbox is a remote first organisation so you’ll be working from home for the majority of the time. We try to bring the team together in person on a quarterly basis, normally in London, so you will be asked to join us on these visits, where possible. All travel expenses will be covered.
  • We are open to flexible working arrangements to make sure we get the best candidates. We encourage you to discuss any requests as early as possible and we will endeavour to balance these with our business needs.
