Senior Software Engineer, Platform

Engineering

Full-Time

Airbyte is the open-source standard for EL(T). We enable data teams to replicate data from applications, APIs, and databases to data warehouses, lakes, and other destinations. We believe only an open-source approach can solve the problem of data integration, as it enables us to cover the long tail of integrations while enabling teams to adapt pre-built connectors to their needs. Within just 14 months, we’ve built 130+ connectors and we’ve had 6,000+ companies syncing data with us.

We’re backed by some of the world’s top investors (Benchmark, Accel, Y Combinator, etc.) and believe in product-led growth, where we build something awesome and let our product bring the users, rather than an outbound sales engine with cold calls.

Airbyte is remote-friendly, with most of the team still based in Silicon Valley. We’re fully transparent as a company. Our company handbookculture & valuesstrategy, and roadmap are open to all.

The Opportunity

The Platform Team is building a cloud version of our product from the ground up. You’ll be getting in at the ground floor on building a SaaS ETL tool. This initiative builds on the success of the open source product. It will be a gamechanger for existing and new users who want to leverage the Airbyte ETL platform without having to maintain it themselves. Because of its open-source roots, Airbyte Cloud will be the only SaaS ETL solution that can manage data pipelines for all of a user’s sources in a single tool.

In addition, the platform team is driving important new features to the core Airbyte product including: schema evolution, support for more granular data types to name a couple. It is early days on the platform team, anyone who joins the team will be designing and working on meaty features that will define the Airbyte product.

What You’ll Do:

  • Write code
  • Design and lead system-spanning technical projects
  • Advocate for new features and product decisions based learnings from users
  • Own the success of our cloud and OSS products
  • Embed or rotate into the Connector team to execute on cross-cutting projects
  • Contribute to and help shape the Platform team’s roadmap
  • Engage with our open source community via events, Slack, or pull requests to ensure we cultivate and serve a thriving community
  • Drive and participate in major architectural initiatives

What You’ll Need:

  • 4+ years of software engineering experience
  • Proficiency writing production-quality code in Java
  • Any non-zero level of experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or Temporal
  • Any non-zero experience either building or using ETL tools
  • Any non-zero level of experience working on a cloud platform (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc).
  • Desire to work directly with users
  • Desire to guide the product to better solve for user needs
  • Willing to work remote
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A passion for continuous learning and improvement (both at a personal and team level)
  • Belief in our values
