Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a High School Diploma or General Educational Development Certificate. One (1) year experience preferred in direct juvenile care, counseling, law enforcement, corrections or other related field; Experience as a data entry clerk; Typing skills; Excellent knowledge of word processing tools and spreadsheets (MS Office, Word, Excel, etc.) Working knowledge of office equipment and computer hardware and peripheral devices; Basic understanding of databases; Able to work independently. Ability to communicate effectively (reading, writing, and understanding) in English; knowledge of Spanish is preferred; Must be over 21 years of age. Must have a Texas Motor Vehicle Driver's License and current automobile insurance. Able to submit to a drug urinalysis pre-screening exam and pass a criminal background check. If the candidate for employment does have a criminal record, it must be cleared through the requirements as set forth by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department. Must work a flexible work schedule.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Prepares source data for computer entry by compiling and sorting information; establishing entry priorities. Compiles, sorts and verifies the accuracy of data before it is entered. Reviews work done by others to check or correct spelling and grammar, ensures that standards and policies are followed, and recommends revisions. Maintains logs of activities and completed work. Maintains and protects resident's rights by keeping information confidential. Organizes and files paperwork, documents and computer-based information. Photocopies and prints various documents. Must adhere, maintain, and comply with professional conduct and ethical behavior consistent with the standards and policies, and procedures expected by the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), TJJD, Cameron County, and Cameron County Juvenile Justice Department (CCJJD) at all time, both on duty and off duty. Performs any and all other duties as assigned by the Chief Juvenile Probation Officer and/or designee, to include reassignment which is in the best interest of the department. This is not a Civil Service covered position.
