Our Values ⚖️
Engineers and product obsessed - we loathe over-engineering, we cringe anytime a customer reports a bug and we release new versions every 2 weeks.
We love our customers - solving their problems and helping them grow and succeed in a rapidly changing world. Oh yeah we also love their 5 star reviews.
We love disrupting the status quo - we believe everyone globally in the industries we're going after will be using a mobile app as their primary business tool by 2021.
We understand that it is critical to measure what matters. So we don't take victory laps nor do we pause to take a break unless the scoreboard reflects that we are #winning as it relates to our customer delight and growth goals.
We don't just think of this as a job. In our spare time, this is what we do and who we are. Our obsession with small business, fintech, smart growth, and cool apps is a 24/7 thing.
We believe only three things matter as we build out our business: building a great product, delivering awesome customer service, and a killer instinct for activating and engaging new users... which leads us to:
Who are we looking for 😎
You love the idea of making it easy for anyone to work for themself and make a great living. That idea fires you up so much, you are willing to go to the wall to bring it to life. We are looking for a data driven, scrappy, results oriented Product Manager who recognizes that creating a product users love, delivering world-class customer success, and serving as a multiplier on the team is a winning strategy. We’re also looking for someone who is comfortable with the UX side of things. If you are comfortable navigating auto-layout on Figma then this role is for you!
You have a track record for high customer empathy, data driven opportunity identification, collaborative problem solving, and going the extra mile to achieve a shared "win". You believe in product roadmaps, process alignment, taking big swings at creating new features, while getting small improvements "high visibility, high need" features out quickly, testing/testing/testing, and continuous improvement. You thrive on making contributions across the business and also enjoy carving out "deep work" opportunities in specific areas.
Someone who has created his or her own startup or been team member #1 or #2 at another startup. Someone who has achieved "real" not "vanity metric" traction and exited - voluntarily or involuntarily. Someone who wants to do it all over again, but better ... with a team that has the talent and runway to go all the way. Someone who believes the fact that people with time and talent don't have a transparent, frictionless path to make a great living is a crime. Someone who has done their homework and knows exactly where they plan to add value to realize our vision. Someone who is highly resourceful and effective when things are most uncertain. Someone who has the ability to nurture a feature from concept to launch to post-launch impact monitoring to a seamless iteration cycle. Let's not get bogged down with the technicalities of planning poker, but project management skills are definitely a bonus! Someone who is modest, but intense. Pragmatic with a sense of urgency. Leads with data yet trusts his/her intuition. Someone who has strong views, but holds them lightly. Someone who knows that it is now or never.
What will you be doing? 💻
• Become a product expert with deep understanding of user personas, use cases, performance metrics, industry standards, competition, and trends for our top industry verticals
• Conduct research, conduct discovery interviews with users, create high fidelity mockups, draft PRDs, project manage the design and development phase, demo new features, develop QA plans/acceptance criteria, complete testing, work with Release & Product Marketing Teams, brief Customer Success Team, develop and send release notes
• Participate in "Customer Success Pro" jam sessions by phone or in app for a half day two times a week to stay close to our users, understand their current experience, and continue to deepen your product knowledge
• Leverage our analytics platform to support team members across Customer Success, Marketing, & Payment Operations teams in developing performance metric baselines and dashboards to inform their experiments and monitor progress
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree
• 2+ years of product management experience
• Strong experience or interest in UI/UX
• Demonstrated professional experience using Excel;
• Experience with Heap, Mixed Panel, SQL is a plus
• Mobile product background [a plus]
• Payments, SaaS, and fintech knowledge and interest [a plus]
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Confident, proactive self-starter who is extremely organized, detail oriented, and goal driven
• Ability to react, adapt, and learn quickly
• Process-oriented with an understanding of the need to move fast
• Weekend availability
• Prior experience working in a fast growth startup environment
• Most people you've worked with would put you in their top 5
• You should be able to ace our technical interview [no puzzles, no tricks]
• The details matter to you [PRDs, pixel perfect design, acceptance testing, continuous performance monitoring] and you take lots of pride in your work.
• You're not into shiny new things and TechCrunch headlines
• You are all about building systems that create real value for real people - over the long term
• Looking for an "ALL IN" team and workplace culture

From there, you'll work with care and ops teams to understand members' engagement with our platform across our therapy, 1:1 coaching, and digital content products; as well as enterprise features like health-plan integration and crisis support. And finally, you'll analyze the impact of our platform on members' well-being and work closely with our sales and customer success teams to share those results with our partner companies.

(Senior) Product Manager, Financial Systems at Petal
Job Description
The Petal mission
Petal’s mission is to expand access to opportunity by making responsible, modern financial services available to everyone. Founded in 2016, Petal provides technology-enabled credit cards to consumers who are historically underserved by mainstream providers.
Petal pioneered automated cash flow underwriting, a transformative new approach to assessing consumer creditworthiness with the potential to expand access to tens of millions of U.S. consumers without credit history, or for whom traditional credit scores do not tell the whole story. Petal pairs this groundbreaking, data-driven underwriting technology with a mobile-first, digitally native product experience designed to help users manage and build credit responsibly. For Petal, it’s a mission as much as it is a business—with a goal to reimagine finance for the next generation of consumers.
At Petal, we're looking for people with kindness, positivity, and integrity. You're encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn't precisely match the job description. Your skills and potential will stand out—and set you apart—especially if your career has taken some extraordinary twists and turns. At Petal, we welcome diverse perspectives from people who think rigorously and aren't afraid to challenge assumptions.
The Role
To support our rapidly growing credit card member base, Petal uses increasingly complex funding strategies across a range of 3rd parties. In collaboration with our Capital Markets team, Engineering, Analytics and others this Product Manager sets the roadmap priorities and design specifications for the technology systems that enable those relationships. These systems ingest data, run calculations, verify results and integrate with 3rd parties to enable the flow of funds.
This role also ensures that our systems provide timely and accurate financial reporting for the business. Data and calculations must flow through with accuracy and timeliness.
As a member of a team that is still growing within Petal, you will have the opportunity to help shape the Financial Systems team’s identity and footprint.
The ideal candidate possesses strong technical and data analysis skills, familiarity and interest in the finance industry, is comfortable working on high stakes projects under tight deadlines, works well cross-functionally, has a sharp eye for details, proactively owns and solves problems, and is always excited to learn.
Responsibilities
- Define the long-term vision and strategy for Financial Systems at Petal. Develop and maintain a product roadmap with the highest impact initiatives.
- Collaborate with Capital Markets, Analytics, FP&A and application Engineering teams to identify areas for improvements.
- Align with the product development team and stakeholders across the company to prioritize the most important opportunities and share the team’s long-term vision and strategy.
- Work alongside a top-notch Engineering team to drive and execute the highest priority initiatives. Keep the project moving forward on the right path. See around corners to identify potential problems early and address them quickly.
- Focus on results. Define metrics to measure the impact of initiatives. Analyze outcomes post-launch to identify how the changes perform compared to expectations. Celebrate the wins and learn from the misses to drive further iteration.
- Interact with 3rd party technology and financial partners to advocate for Petal’s needs.
Characteristics of a successful candidate
- 2-4 years of Product Management experience (or 5+ years for Sr PM). You’ve launched many software development projects of increasing complexity and learned from each of them. You have a deep understanding of the techniques and methods of modern product discovery and product delivery.
- Experience solving difficult problems with many constraints. You gather expert input, analyze risks, make good decisions and communicate your thinking clearly.
- Excellent collaboration skills. You foster an environment where your peers feel comfortable sharing information freely and working jointly on solutions. Your clear articulation of the needed context helps team members see how their work fits into the bigger picture. Seek out others input, listen closely to stakeholders and draw out key points.
- Strong data technology skills. You are very familiar with database systems and querying languages. Proficient in SQL
- Strong financial fluency. You understand and have worked on financial products – even if they aren’t revolving credit lines such as in credit cards. You have experience with the calculations and business requirements involved in financial products.
- Strong technical fluency. You are comfortable with technical conversations around data, 3rd party integrations and technical architectures. You serve as a thought partner to engineering around technical tradeoffs.
- BA/BS or greater – ideally in a financial or technical field
- Strong interest in the Petal mission and culture!
