The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) is a recognized national leader in the area of Asthma and Airway Disease Research. Responsibilities*

  • Identifies patients for inclusion into severe asthma databases through the application of provided program inclusion/exclusion criteria and protocols.
  • Identifies the appropriate resources necessary in obtaining valid, reliable data for entry
  • into the program.
  • Demonstrates effective utilization of the hospital medical record systems in the collection of asthma related treatments and procedures.
  • Has a thorough understanding of asthma treatment and an ability to interpret clinical testing reports
  • Identifies opportunities for streamlining and process improvement in the data collection process.
  • Utilizes software applications for data collection and analysis.
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely entry of data into the program’s database and meets the caseload accrual requirement protocol.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 1 -3 years experience in a relevant Field
  • Clinical chart review and/or abstraction experience
  • Database data entry and/or management experience
  • Computer and Internet experience required, especially with Microsoft Office products such as Word (required), Excel (required) and PowerPoint (preferred).

Desired Qualifications*

  • Previous experience with pulmonary or critical care.
  • Experience with clinical research.
  • Familiarity with University of Michigan/Michigan Medicine Systems (MiCHART, RedCap, OnCore), Policies and Procedures
  • Licensure as a RT, LPN, or Similar

Additional Information

Competencies:

  • Clinical Knowledge: The ability to collect data and identify areas for quality improvement requiring clinical knowledge and understanding of patient care. The candidate should be skilled in understanding and interpreting clinical data.
  • Hospital Systems/Departmental Knowledge: Experience with and the ability to locate and gather information in a complex hospital system through various sources such as medical records, surgery clinics, social security death index, direct patient contact, and accounts payable. The ability to identify opportunities to effectively present MSQC data to relevant groups or meetings (for example: M&M, infection control, quality management, and administration).
  • Computer Knowledge: The ability to learn and utilize new software and web applications for data entry and report generation. The candidate should have some computer experience with Microsoft Office and basic statistical skills.
  • Quality Improvement Knowledge and Experience: The ability to successfully communicate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to plan, document and implement data-driven quality improvement initiatives and programs.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
