The Role

Peek Vision is seeking a highly skilled Senior Product Designer with a focus on visual design to join our team. In this role, you’ll take ownership of the entire design process, collaborating with cross-functional teams to create intuitive, accessible, and visually compelling experiences across our products. You’ll be a key contributor to our design strategy and responsible for ensuring our products meet the highest standards in terms of both usability and aesthetics.

You will be instrumental in helping us scale to meet needs of eye care providers across The Global South by tackling a number of complex design challenges. A key objective for the first 12 months of the role will be to create tools to measure the outcome of clinical interventions, and to limit drop off between medical appointments.

Peek’s staff are distributed internationally around the globe and our customers and software users operate and deliver programmes in multiple countries. Travel to programmes using Peek in different countries will be part of the role (in line with Peek’s Travel Safety Policy). Peek’s culture enables a self managed team structure. This provides a high level of ownership and accountability within each role, and enables effective and frequent collaboration between team members and across teams.

Responsibilities and Attributes

The 5 key responsibilities of the role are:

  • Lead Design Process: Own the end-to-end design process, from research to final design, ensuring quality at each stage.
  • Craft Accessible Designs: Create intuitive, visually compelling, and accessible user experiences.
  • Ownership of Design System & Design Artefacts: Develop and refine Peeks’s design system, ensuring consistent application. Maintain and organise key design assets.
  • User-Centred Problem Solving: Understand the what, why and how of a problem to ensure we’re shipping the right thing, anchoring functionality in user goals.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with engineering, clinical, data, communications and other teams to ensure smooth and cohesive delivery.

The 6 key attributes we have identified for the role are:

  • 6+ years of experience in product design, with an emphasis on visual design.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of discovery techniques employing cross-disciplinary collaboration; shaping solutions and shipping changes that are measurably valuable.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of software product design in Agile environments, including familiarity with the delivery lifecycle and Agile process improvement.
  • Proven experience of shipping incremental improvements involving rethinking and validating solutions for new and better experiences.
  • Facilitation skills, including demonstrable experience of engaging colleagues less familiar with a user-centred approach, building on their knowledge and joining dots between teams to grow internal understanding of our products and bring value to our users.
  • Proven experience of pragmatism when it comes to the trade-offs involved in creating the best possible experience within a given scope of change and the ability to communicate the rationale behind these decisions to collective and individual decision makers, within the context of a wider organisational mission.

Desirable attributes for the role are:

  • Experience working with healthcare products

About Peek
1.1 billion people live with avoidable or preventable vision loss. This number is set to grow to 1.8 billion by 2050. The vast majority (90%) need just a simple pair of glasses or cataract surgery. So why do so many not have access to these simple, life-changing solutions?

Across the world, eye health professionals work tirelessly. But they face huge challenges. Resources are scarce, specialists are in short supply, patients don’t arrive at appointments and outcomes can be hard to track. Many people with vision loss don’t know a solution exists or struggle to reach care. They remain invisible to health services.

Peek Vision is a social enterprise that works with NGOs and governments to bring vision and eye health to everyone. Our software and data intelligence platform strengthens health systems and optimises school, community and workplace eye health services. With Peek, eye health providers can identify gaps and inequalities in their services. People who would have been invisible to health workers or hard to reach are made visible, so that nobody is left behind.

By 2050, we aim to prevent 1.25 billion people from needlessly losing their eyesight.

We are dynamic, impact-driven and award-winning. Our products have been developed in collaboration with eye health providers, professional bodies and researchers. They reflect global best practices in health systems decision-making. We currently offer eye health providers:

Rapid assessments: Software and tools to help programme planners understand their populations’ eye health needs.

Peek-powered programmes: Software to implement, optimise and evaluate eye health services in schools and communities.

Peek is powering eye health programmes in multiple countries. Millions of people have their vision screened using Peek each year.
