Job Description

As a Content Strategist and Copywriter, you will be responsible for guiding the creation, delivery, and governance of useful, usable content across our client's websites and marketing programs.

Big Sea, a digital marketing and web development agency, is looking for an experienced Content Strategist & Copywriter to join our team.

As a Content Strategist and Copywriter, you will be responsible for guiding the creation, delivery, and governance of useful, usable content across our client's websites and marketing programs.

You'll be responsible for gathering information about target audiences and creating user personas, determining which organizational/business/functional goals will drive our content-related decisions, developing website information architecture, working with our designers on website user experience, building editorial strategy using our SEO research, writing SEO-optimized blog articles and landing pages, creating compelling advertising campaigns and producing client presentations.

We expect that you’ll have experience aligning editorial marketing strategy with business objectives, understand user experience, and be able to create clickable and share-worthy content for our clients across their owned digital properties and social media. Our goal is to tell a brand’s story in an innovative and persuasive manner that adds value for users throughout the customer journey.

This role requires a deep appreciation for the digital technology space and an insatiable desire to stand out from the crowd.

You will report directly to the CEO and work with the marketing and website deliver teams to ensure you’re collaborating on ideas for producing interesting, buzzworthy campaigns.

What You’ll Do

In short, you will contribute your drive for research, analysis, and critical thinking to help define our clients’ identity, audience, and competition. That research will help define website structure, campaign messaging, brand identity, and inform marketing architecture.

We need someone who understands strategy, because we’re asking you to:

  • Conduct brand strategy exercises, concepting meetings, and creative workshops with clients
  • Create and present comprehensive content marketing strategies, confidently speaking to a range of industries and their users' needs
  • Gather information about our priority audiences (to include user interviews)
  • Analyze existing content and content ecosystems
  • Interview stakeholders about their roles, experience, needs, and expectations
  • Establish metrics for success
  • Propose and defend recommendations for campaign creative for Big Sea and our clients
  • Keep up-to-date with client performance and preferences, and proactively suggest new campaigns
  • Perform audience listening to determine the necessary content output
  • Stay up-to-date with digital technology platforms and content approaches
  • Help clients identify and communicate their business objectives and marketing goals in a way that informs marketing and content strategies
  • Create or incorporate editorial guidelines (to include voice and tone)
  • Create editorial calendars for ongoing publishing requirements
  • Create and maintain resources for internal stakeholders to find, reuse, and/or repurpose existing content
  • Present work and speak confidently to the strategy and research that informed it

Copywriting Is Also Important Because You’ll Need To

  • Concept and pitch narrative, ideas, and campaigns to clients — both existing and prospective
  • Create copy to suit all channels, such as email, ad campaigns, social media, blogs, landing pages, and more
  • Write copy that inspires action and upholds storytelling flow
  • Create and edit widely varied content for specific audiences and channels
  • Research and implement best practices for digital platforms
  • Maintain incredible attention to grammar, punctuation, and usage details
  • Develop and contribute to client style guides

In a Typical Week, You Might

  • Create social media content and publish calendars for our clients
  • Write copy for different ad campaigns
  • Define a campaign narrative and messaging strategy for a client’s marketing strategy
  • Work with our marketing team to create an editorial calendar based on provided keyword research
  • Lead a brand strategy workshop for a new project
  • Create a sitemap and write homepage copy for a new web design project

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in communications, journalism, creative writing, marketing or related field
  • Depth and breadth of experience in content strategy and content production process
  • A portfolio that demonstrates copywriting expertise and content strategy experience
  • The ability to focus and manage your time, and balance that focus time with collaborative work sessions and team communication
  • Willingness to learn how to complete job duties, including meetings with clients, in full costume on Halloween
  • Next level communication skills, especially the ability to tailor both written and oral communication to a variety of audiences
  • Strong intuition regarding when, how, and what to communicate
  • Use of the word "stingray" somewhere in your application to be considered for this role
  • Availability, responsiveness, and proactiveness
  • Ability to work efficiently in a shared workspace, breakout areas, and remotely

  • Ability to travel as needed to meet with clients around the country
