Job Description

About LifeWeb 360

LifeWeb is creating the place where anyone around the world can find out someone they care about has died, learn about them from others, and celebrate them authentically by sharing memories—photos, videos, funny stories, inspiring tributes. Think social media, except not toxic.

Each of us touches so many people during our life; LifeWeb harnesses the outpouring of love that happens when someone dies to capture their essence in an authentic way, honor them, and give comfort to their family that they were seen in this world. We’re reminding everyone how they lived, not that they died.

Big picture—death is a rare moment when we step back and reflect on how we want to live, and at LifeWeb we are tapping into this energy to help people make meaning in their own lives.

Our company stage:

We founded the company in 2019 as a D2C business and grew during the pandemic as people sought out ways to honor a loved one when they couldn’t physically go to funerals. Over the past year we pivoted our GTM to B2B / B2B2C focusing on community-based organizations like schools, fraternities, and employers, and completed Techstars Chicago (Spring 2023 cohort).

We're on the pre-seed / seed cusp (given how seed stage is being defined these days!), are post-revenue, are growing with a clear GTM path, and are iterating just shy of product-market-fit. We need a talented product person obsessed with rapid experimentation to push us over the hump.

Role overview:

We are seeking an adaptable, scrappy, and entrepreneurial product person to join our small and passionate team and lead product.

We're open to candidates from mid-level to CPO-ready seniority. Opportunity to discuss late-stage co-founder for the right candidate.

You’re a self-starter with a sense of humor (we have way more fun than you'd think for a company focused on death!), and thrive working in an early-stage startup environment. You’re all-in on customer discovery and rapid experimentation across everything product touches including product marketing and customer success.

👉 The role described below is for our ideal candidate plugging all the current holes on our team. However, it’s very possible that the responsibilities described lend themselves better to two different roles. I.e., if you are only interested in a subset of the responsibilities listed below, that’s great as well, because we can carve those into one role and find another candidate to take on the remaining items. Please note this when reaching out.

The team you’re joining:

You are:

  • Obsessed with rapid experimentation in product, product marketing, and customer success
  • Constantly talking with customers / doing customer discovery
  • Someone who thrives in ambiguity
  • Able to communicate well with engineers
  • Excited about our current stage, where we’re headed, and our product vision and company mission

Bonuses if you have:

  • Experience scaling product from pre-seed to seed stage
  • Founder experience
  • Social media, community, user-generated content, or similar industry product experience
  • Jobs-to-be-done (JTBD) interviewing experience
  • Basic design experience to create simple wireframes for front end development stories
  • That elusive ability to fold the fitted bed sheet

Key responsibilities:

  • Own product strategy
    • Set product strategy
    • Define and manage development prioritization
    • Track Product KPIs and OKRs
  • Customer discovery
    • Schedule and lead user interviews (non-JTBD)
    • Schedule, lead, and document JTBD interviews, with Bob Moesta (co-creator of the JTBD framework and a LifeWeb advisor) as a resource
  • Lead, manage, and track all product, experience, and activation experiments including:
    • Marketing activation experiments between our partner organizations (such as private high schools) and their community (e.g., alumni) to make their community aware of LifeWeb as a resource and begin building a habit to check the page
    • Customer success experiments to get our partners to value more quickly
    • Product experiments to get site visitors engaging and sharing memories
  • Manage product development
    • Manage sprints – our current methodology is most closely aligned with “agile” / kanban with a 2-week sprint cycle
    • Maintain and advance analytics
    • Document relevant parts of product / product decisions, as necessary

Our current tech stack:

Languages & Frameworks: Ruby on Rails, React
Content Moderation (Image and Text recognition): AWS Rekognition & Comprehend
Data server: AWS

Team Logistics:

We are a remote-first team working across Central Time, Brasilia Time, and Central European Time. Time zones between CT and CET preferred to have sufficient overlap with teammates.

What we offer

  • 🔥 A high-functioning team that is driven by a mission to redefine what empathetic technology can mean, and to have fun in the process
  • 💛 The opportunity to immediately improve a fundamental human experience of losing a loved one and supporting a friend in grief
  • 🤗 If you're a fan of the jobs-to-be-done framework for customer discovery, you can learn directly from our advisor and co-creator of that framework, Bob Moesta
  • 💪 As much ownership over your work as you can handle with lots of room for growth
  • 💲 Competitive compensation (salary + stock options) and benefits relative to other early-stage startups, including health benefits
  • 🌍Work from wherever you'd like and know the rest of the team is too - we are a remote-first company
