Job Description

Datavant is a rapidly growing healthcare technology company with a mission to connect the world’s health data. By eliminating data silos in the healthcare industry, we aim to unlock opportunities to accelerate clinical data exchange, medical research, and help organizations design better ways to facilitate access, affordability, and quality of care leading to better patient outcomes.

By joining Datavant today, you’re stepping onto a highly collaborative, remote-first team that is passionate about creating transformative change in healthcare. We hire for three traits: we want people who are smart, nice, and get things done. We invest in our people and believe in hiring for high-potential and humble individuals who can rapidly grow their responsibilities as the company scales. Datavant is a distributed, remote-first team, and we empower Datavanters to shape their working environment in a way that suits their needs -- learn more here!

Like many startups, Datavant is fast-paced, product-driven, and focused on challenging the status quo. But cultures are defined on how they are different, not how they are the same, and we encourage you to read about the Datavant Way here.

As Head of Product for our Identified Data platform and products, you will be an executive who shapes what we do and will set the tone for how we do it. You will be in charge of a product that is used by providers, payers, patients, attorneys, life insurance companies and many more to request and share millions of medical records to support patient outcomes. Our product was implemented in over one hundred health systems last year and powered more than six million requests for clinical data. With your help we will 50x these numbers over the next three years!

In this role you will:

  • Create the vision for Datavant’s suite of products and how our capabilities will advance our ability to fulfill our mission, deliver on client needs, and meet our goals.
  • Own the product roadmap, working with the executive team, product managers, and other stakeholders across the company.
  • Treat the product as a business, delivering rapid revenue and customer growth by directing how customer use cases, capabilities, positioning, and more come together to create a winning product.
  • Scale and lead a world-class team of product managers and product designers who are high performing and autonomous and form the glue of the organization.
  • Be the champion & driver of product innovation processes & initiatives.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with leaders across the company, including sales, customer success, implementations, legal and marketing. You understand their perspectives and what they value and use that to keep them updated on roadmap and general product developments and benefits.
  • Have a deep understanding of the use cases we power, our clients’ businesses, and the broader Datavant ecosystem. Use that understanding to create our strategy and anticipate needs & risks.
  • Be hands-on by leading high impact efforts.
  • Be a strong communicator, coach, and mentor.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • You are passionate about building a business that transforms the healthcare industry
  • You have a hunger to win
  • You are able to both “lead” and “do”
  • You set and rally a team to achieve measurable goals
  • You are highly empathetic and able to shape opinions
  • You are ambitious, scrappy, tenacious, and you get things done
  • You are comfortable making hard decisions and move quickly
  • You are noted as one of the best problem solvers in your organization
  • You have experience managing a highly functioning Product Management team
  • You have experience managing or working closely with Design, including UI/UX and Service Design
  • You have experience in healthcare or other highly regulated field like financial services
  • You are highly organized and reliable; you bring structure to complexity
  • You are excited to interact with sales teams and customers
  • You bring back the voice of the customer and measure success by impact and adoption, not by a product’s existence or its feature set

We are committed to building a diverse team of Datavanters who are smart, nice, and get things done where every Datavanter is empowered to bring their authentic self to their work. We are all responsible for stewarding a high-performance culture in which all Datavanters belong and thrive. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences.

Our compensation philosophy is to be externally competitive, internally fair, and not win or lose on compensation. Salary ranges are developed with the support of benchmarks (competitive San Francisco rates for US-based roles) and industry best practices.

We’re building a high-growth, high-autonomy culture. We rely less on job titles and more on cultivating an environment where anyone can contribute, the best ideas win, and personal growth is driven by expanding impact and less by title. This means we default to simple job titles (e.g., Software Engineer) rather than complex ones (e.g., Senior Software Engineer). The range posted is for a given job title, which can include multiple levels. Individual rates for the same job title may differ based on their level, responsibilities, skills, and experience for a specific job. The estimated salary range for this role is $250,000-$350,000.

At the end of this application, you will find a set of voluntary demographic questions. If you choose to respond, your responses will be used to help us identify areas of improvement in our recruitment process. We can only see aggregate responses and are unable to view individual responses. In fact, we aren’t even able to see if you’ve responded or not! Responding is your choice and it will not be used in any way in our hiring process.
