Job Description

Ready to make an impact? Arctic Wolf seeks a Lead Developer to join our pack.

Arctic Wolf, with its unicorn valuation, is the leader in security operations in an exciting and fast-growing industry—cybersecurity. How fast are we growing? Well, Arctic Wolf was highly ranked in the Deloitte Fast Technology 500 for North America in both 2019 (#25) and 2020 (#104)! We have doubled headcount, customers, and revenue for five years running.

We are also cultivating a collaborative and productive work environment that welcomes a diversity of backgrounds, cultures, and ideas to make our teams even stronger as we grow our teams globally. In fact, we were named a 2021 Top Workplace USA (Energage) as the top technology firm to work in our size category, were recognized as one of the 2020 Best Places to Work (bizjournals.com), and most recently were certified as a 2021 Great Place to Work (Great Places to Work Institute, Canada).

Arctic Wolf believes in corporate responsibility, and our worldwide offices proudly participate in volunteer programs throughout their communities. We’ve also earned distinction from TravelWise for our efforts in promoting sustainable transportation.

About the Team

The UX Team is a hybrid team of UX Designers and UI Developers who support the entire R&D Department. We are the primary champions and advocates for User Experience (UX) and we help build solutions that create great UX Outcomes for our customers. We are passionate about creating intuitive, time-saving, and beautiful interfaces and we’re looking for someone to help us make Arctic Wolf a market leader in UX Design.

A Lead Developer is responsible for providing the team technical direction to deliver high value, performant software solutions. The Lead Developer will provide technical guidance and direction to a team of developers through the design, implementation and automated/integration testing of our software. They will also provide guidance on best practices for running, monitoring, and maintaining our system. This is different from a Team Lead. The Team lead is responsible for leading the team and projects that team works on.

We value a culture of sharing, so every R&D team has the opportunity to share their work with the entire department during our monthly R&D Demos. Once a year we hold a department-wide Hackathon, teaming up across all R&D teams over four days to collaborate and build cool ideas outside the normal project scope. While innovation is the focus, some of these ideas do make it into our products.

About the Role

UI Developers are a part of the whole UX continuum from the interface to the person. They bring engineering knowledge and context to the UX Team so Designers can make well-informed design decisions. They also bring empathy for the user and deep problem-space understanding to the engineering team so developers can make well-informed engineering decisions. This creates a strong connection between design and engineering.

Responsibilities Include:

Develop, maintain, and improve our UI component libraries that are the building blocks for all web development at Arctic Wolf

Help design and develop the Arctic Wolf Design System: A UX Platform for web development at Arctic Wolf.

Design and implement the visual design aesthetic, interaction design system, and front-end processes and app architecture for Arctic Wolf.

Write production code with a focus on the user’s experience, crafting interaction patterns that are reusable, inclusive, and performant.

Create a set of common functions and hooks to enable the sharing of reusable code

Promote accessibility and implement interfaces that everybody enjoys regardless of what input device they use.

Create comprehensive documentation that is clear and concise for developers to consume and easy for designers to update and improve over time.

Contribute to the growth and mentorship of other team members

You will support and lead R&D teams to create great products and user experiences by collaborating in a research-driven process, communicating a common Design Language, and building an optimized UI framework that makes doing UI Development faster and more efficient. The UI Developer will be an essential contributor to the R&D organization by helping bridge the gap between UX Design and Agile Development at Arctic Wolf.
