ABOUT THE ROLE
Overview
The primary function of an SEO Manager is to support the professional development of SEO Specialists that report to this role, and through excellence in coaching, drive retention for the regional accounts. The SEO Manager is a mentoring/development focused role, where the majority of time is spent working one on one with direct reports on two main goals: ensuring direct report's success in their current role and professionally developing them for their future goals.
In addition to the people-development responsibility the Manager is responsible for ongoing development of efficiencies as well as an increase in effectiveness of our digital marketing strategies. From these initiatives they will be responsible for the development of innovative case studies, projects and experiments that bring exceptional value to all clients, and recognition to the company.
The SEO Manager will also work with the SEO and Managed Services Senior Director on specially assigned projects or initiatives focused on department improvement.
Duties
- Hold structured one on ones with each direct report focused on:
- Daily task execution
- Employee growth/development goals and related action items
- Blockers/needs
- Develop clear, actionable development plans for employees to improve their performance as an SEO Specialist by:
- Reviewing work product for process accuracy
- Reviewing work product for speed against guidelines
- Reviewing work product for SEO quality/critical thinking against best practices
- Identifying clear strengths and weaknesses
- Providing feedback on strengths/weaknesses to encourage continued growth
- Working with training manager as needed to create a development plan to take advantage of opportunities
- Create and coach employees towards stretch assignments to foster growth
- Conduct a monthly review of Accounts KPIs, strategies and deliverables to ensure they're up to the highest possible standards of excellence, providing feedback to Strategists on areas of growth or opportunities.
- Serve as second escalation step for client issues, concerns or other account-related critical situations, exercising sound judgement in communication, response and escalation.
- Compete DI-required employee performance reviews
- Identify opportunities for and assist with innovation, testing, case studies and service development
- Manage, train-on, improve on and innovate SEO Specialist processes, including documentation
- Coach Specialists through deep dives, using the situation as a development opportunity to improve Specialist's skills
- Serve as support for Specialist or contact for client calls as needed
- Assist in setting and executing department OKRs
- Advocate to Department leadership on behalf of SEO Specialists for needs, issues, blockers, etc. that need resolution or attention
- Cascade departmental policy/process changes to team and demonstrate effective/clear communication in Slack, in person, and in remote collaboration settings
- Ensure work is being completed according to schedule by Specialists
- Manage individualized projects, initiatives or responsibilities as assigned by the Director
- Other administrative duties, as assigned, such as: approving employee time sheets, approving time off requests, balancing employee work schedules, employee reprimand escalation, etc.

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base salary range for this position which is not inclusive of bonuses, benefits or other forms of compensation that the position may be eligible for. If you are hired at Cars Commerce, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills and/or experience. Salary Range
$87,300—$107,000 USD

Position Description
Mechanism is seeking a SEO Outreach Lead to oversee Linkbuilding efforts across multiple high-growth startups in our portfolio. As the SEO Outreach Lead you will be responsible for the strategic direction, operations, and reporting of all Linkbuilding initiatives, working closely with other team members to drive business growth.

Key Responsibilities
- You will manage and further build out Mechanism’s Linkbuilding team. You will have full ownership of Linkbuilding efforts for Mechanism Portfolio Companies and Profit Centers, fully owning strategy, operations, and reporting. This includes both driving strategy forward and overseeing the day-to-day operations of your team.
- Test and develop innovative linkbuilding strategies, creating detailed playbooks and documentation to ensure smooth handoff and scalability across the team.
- You will manage a team of 3+ direct reports, some of which have direct reports themselves or manage projects supported by the operations team.
- You will oversee Linkbuilding strategy and operations to fuel SEO growth across Portfolio Companies. You will have the autonomy to develop and test new strategies and translate them into efficient processes.

What You’ll Bring
- 4+ years of strategic and operational SEO, preferably with a focus on content and linkbuilding.

What You Bring To The Table
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in SEO, and content marketing, with a proven track record of success in improving search rankings, driving organic growth and growing revenue.
- Experience with SEO tools and platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, Ahrefs, SEMRush, Moz, Screaming Frog) and proficiency in utilizing these tools for keyword research, SEO audits, competitor analysis, and performance tracking.

What you'll do:
- Manage the Organic Channel for a suite of education services focused websites with an emphasis on optimizing performance from user acquisition to conversion.
- Develop and implement All Star’s on-page, off-page, and technical SEO strategy
- Own the conversion rate optimization (CRO) strategy and tactical execution for the Organic Channel
- Own and report on Organic Channel KPIs
How you’ll do it:
- Ensure timely communication regarding search engine updates, cross-functional collaboration efforts, team progress etc.
- Conduct keyword research for a variety of verticals to ensure that organic content targets the appropriate keyword groups and reflects searchers’ intent
- Identify underperforming content and submit recommendations to the Content Team for improvement
- Identify content gaps relevant to our audience and work with the Content Team to prioritize production of gaps and opportunities
- Optimize the content architecture for All Star’s suite of websites, balancing SEO factors against usability and conversion considerations
- Understanding of Core Web Vitals to monitor and implement changes to improve and ensure compliance
- Conduct scheduled site audits and competitive analysis to prioritize necessary updates and improvements with relevant stakeholders
- Consult the Content and Dev teams on how to develop and implement SEO best practices, CRO testing, page design and layouts, and prioritize iterative improvements to web properties that improve on-page conversion rates and increase the quality of leads.
- Improve organic visibility and click-through-rate across SERPs
- Conduct a/b and multivariate test with the goal of improving on-page conversion rate and lead generationRequirements:
Required Skills:
- 10+ years of SEO experience with large, high-traffic websites, with 5 years experience managing SEO and CRO initiatives for lead generation websites.
- Experience with a wide variety of SEO auditing tools such as: SEMRush, OnCrawl, Botify, Conductor, BrightEdge, Ahrefs, Majestic, Moz, Screaming Frog, AWR, DeepCrawl, Search Console, Looker Studio, Bing WebMaster Tools.
- Expert understanding on how title tags, meta descriptions and other meta data influence SERP rankings and engagement
- Familiarity with AI tools, trends and their impact on the SEO industry
- Can provide examples of proven SEO success; preference given to those with experience managing multiple websites with big wins
- Previous experience with a/b testing platforms
- Deep experience using Microsoft Excel; we have an excellent BI system, but you have to be able to master pivot tables and other spreadsheet functionality to make the most of the data
- Exceptional quantitative, analytical, and problem solving skills
- Familiarity with Google’s ranking factors, algorithmic changes, and a passion for following (and critically assessing) SEO trends and online discussions
- Deep familiarity with Google’s Search Quality Guidelines and how they are relevant to All Star’s vertical websites
- Excellent communication and time management skills; comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Solid knowledge of HTML and how HTML structure impacts SEO
- Four-year college degree with emphasis in marketing, communication, statistics, or math; or commensurate experience
Additional Skills Preferred:
- Hands-on experience administering WordPress websites; understanding of the core features and limitations of WordPress is critical
- Track record of successfully directing and supervising external (contract) teams will be advantageous
- Working knowledge of web application technologies, including HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, code structure, URL structure, HTTP status codes and redirects as they impact SEO; a big plus but not required
